USB on the Go for Asus Zenfone 5 - with New 1.17.40.16 Firmware Update

USB on the Go for Asus Zenfone 5 - with New 1.17.40.16 Firmware Update

The much needed and expected feature on the Asus zenfone 5 is here!!!
Yes the usb otg is now working after installing the update file of size 30.62mb.

The version of the new update is 1.17.40.16 received 20:00hours on 18/8/2014.

Video Showing the OTG update..

The new firmware should show up in 1-2 days?

USB OTG: What it means and how to use it

Some Android devices such as the Nexus 5 support a very useful feature that manufacturers don’t really make a whole lot of fuss over: USB On the go, or OTG. At the very basic core, it means that you can use your Android device as a USB host and connect, for example, a USB stick directly to the smartphone. At the core, it has a bunch of other uses. What else can USB OTG be used for and how it works, we’ll explain below.

What is OTG?

As stated above, OTG stands for “On the go”. With two devices that are USB OTG compatible you can make them communicate with each other and perform certain functions. The most common one we use is when we use a PC, which acts as a host, and connect a USB flash drive or a smartphone to it. With the introduction of more devices being OTG compatible, you can now bypass the PC: photos can be sent directly from your camera to a printer, a keyboard can be connected directly to a mobile device, or a USB stick can be connected to a smartphone.  One of the easiest ways to figure out whether you have a device that is USB OTG compatible is to look for the following USB logo with green arrow.

How can you use OTG on your smartphone or tablet?

The applications of USB OTG are varied and based on compatible hardware. With smartphones and tablets, the technology can be used to connect keyboards, mice, hard drives, and USB sticks.  However, not all smartphones and tablets are OTG compatible. If you’re not sure whether your device has the capability of acting as an OTG host, you can easily figure it out by downloading a free app from the Play Store called USB Host Diagnostics.

Just having a device that is OTG compatible isn’t enough though as you’ll also need a suitable OTG cable for your device. Of course, you can easily grab one for a few bucks at a few online portals, including over at Amazon.com. Furthermore, to connect storage devices such as a USB flash drive or a hard drive, you may also need an app like USB Host Controller or Total Commander.
Many of the current iteration of smartphones offer the USB OTG compatibility, I including the following:

Sony Xperia Z, ZL, Z Ultra, Z1
Samsung Galaxy S2, S3, S4, Note 1,  Note 2, Note 3
LG Optimus G, G2
HTC X, One, One mini, One max
Google Nexus 5

With the latest Firmware Update , Asus Zenfone 5 joins the world of USB OTG in India...

A broad comparison on Asus Zenfone 5 vs Moto G : Reasosn to buy Zenfone 5

A broad comparison on Asus Zenfone 5 vs Moto G

Asus Zenfone 5 has changed the mid-range segment of the smartphones into a super hit with the powerful Atom processors and RAM sizes of about 2GB.
But buyers around have confusion whether to go with a MOTO G or Asus Zenfone 5.
Let’s see some of the basic reasons what really makes the one better than the other.
Here are a few facts in which the Zenfone 5 from Asus is a superior option that the Motorola Moto G if you are on the watch for a sub-10000 or equivalent midrange smartphone.

Reasons to go for the Asus Zenfone 5 over Moto G

Price Range:

Asus's Zenfone 5 costing you at 9,999 (though FLIPKART is selling it for 10 K) not only stormed the sub-Rs 10,000 price group of smartphones in India but also postures warning to the much acclaimed Moto G that is offered in the Indian Market (Exclusive in Flipkart) for Rs 11,500 on.
So the obvious reason to go for more Indian buyers with Economic mode suggests going to Asus Zenfone 5.

Bigger Screen:

The Asus Zenfone 5 sports IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen, 16M colors display which is a 5-inch sized one with a resolution of 1280x720P with a 294 PPI. The Motorola G on the other hand has a bit reduced screen which is a 4.5-inch IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen, 16M colors display with the same 1280x720p resolution but with 326 PPI.  Since the ppi difference is very less and around 36 ppis, the user cannot see a big difference and remember if the Zefone 5 has been a 4.5 inch handset, then the ppi costure will be around 385 ppi.

Metal Samsung Galaxy Alpha Arrives in September

Samsung is no longer living in a plastic world: The tech giant today unveiled the new metal-framed Galaxy Alpha smartphone.
The latest Galaxy flagship device comes with a 4.7-inch HD Super AMOLED display and advanced camera features, housed within a metal frame with curved corners and soft back cover.
With an almost iPhone-like design, the Alpha stands at less than 7mm thick—one of the slimmest Galaxy devices ever.

The new handset sports a 1,280-by-720-pixel display, a 12-megapixel rear camera and 2.1-megapixel front shooter. It runs Android 4.4 KitKat and includes features like ultra power-saving mode, S Health, fingerprint scanner, private mode, and connectivity with Samsung's wearables.
Those specs aren't quite as impressive as what's found on the Galaxy S5 $89.99 at Amazon

Motorola Moto X+1 Release Date Leaked: Smartphone Launches Sept. 25 Along With Moto 360

Motorola Moto X+1 Release Date Leaked: Smartphone Launches Sept. 25 Along With Moto 360

Release of Motorola's newest flagship Moto X+1 has been finally confirmed for a Sept. 25 release date with Verizon Wireless, according to reports.

"Sources of ours have confirmed to us that Verizon is currently expecting the new Moto X by September 25," an insider told iDigitalTimes.com.

Furthermore, according to a Droid Life report, the much-awaited next-gen smartphone from Motorola is said to be released together with the Moto 360 smartwatch. The handset could arrive sooner on "other carriers" before Verizon, though the unveiling dates wouldn't be that different at all.

Leaks of the new Moto specs indicated that it will arrive with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 clocked at 2.45 GHz, which indicates that the unit's capacity could come toe to toe with other current flagships like Samsung Galaxy S5, OnePlus One, HTC One M8 and LG G3.

The Moto X+1 includes a 5.1-inch display in 1080p, 2GB of RAM and 32GB Internal memory.

The device is said to also house a 12 MP rear camera, a 5MP front snapper, and a 2900mAh li-ion battery. It comes with Android KitKat 4.4.4 OS out of the box.

Though Moto X+1's predecessor, the Moto X, already comes with powerful features like touchless controls and refined voice activation, the upcoming device can still make a name for its own given the specs that are mentioned above.

Surprisingly, Motorola has been silent about the Moto X+1 release date and still has yet to make an official statement about their latest handset.

Motorola XT1097 aka Moto X+1 does Geekbench

The Motorola Moto XT1097, what is thought to be the Moto X+1, has been caught out in the open again. This time it was spotted in the Geekbench database, which reports Android 4.4.4 KitKat and Qualcomm 8974AC Snapdragon 801.
The chipset features four Krait 400 cores at 2.45GHz, Adreno 330 and 2GB of RAM, confirming the report from AnTuTu that leaked earlier.

The AnTuTu benchmark was done on Android 4.4.3 however. That benchmark result and additional rumors claim a 5.1-5.2" screen with 1080p screen, 12MP camera with an unusual dual-LED flash and a 2,900mAh battery. It will have a selection of wood backs too.
There's a successor to the Moto G visiting benchmarks too, that one aims lower with a 5" 720p screen and a Snapdragon 400 chipset. It bears the XT1063 model number.

The oft-leaked but not so far announced Moto X+1 now gets a rumored release date. According to some unnamed sources, it should land at Verizon "by September 25".
Motorola has previously told us to expect the successor to the original Moto X to arrive in "late summer", and this is close enough - as summer officially ends on September 22. And the "by" in the release wording above could potentially mean that it might be out a little while before September 25 too.
And let's not forget that other carriers are expected to sell the Moto X+1 as well, so one of those may have it for sale before Verizon manages to.

There's nothing new to report on the front of a release date for the Moto 360 smartwatch, though. Obviously it could be launched alongside the Moto X+1, but this rumor doesn't say anything about that.
Yesterday we saw the Moto X+1 getting benchmarked, and having its Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 chipset (with a 2.5 GHz quad-core CPU) confirmed along with 2GB of RAM.
Earlier reports and different mumblings also had it coming with a 5.1" or 5.2" touchscreen with 1080p resolution, a 12 MP rear camera, and a 2900 mAh battery.

Moto G2 coming in September? 5-inch display, Snapdragon 400, 8MP camera

Motorola is set to launch a sequel to last year’s Moto G on September 10th, according to a report by GSMArena. The successor’s name is still a secret, but it’s been given the G2 moniker to indicate an update to last year’s model. The information is said to have come straight from a Motorola representative who has also said that the Moto G2 will be priced at around €250 (around Rs 20,000). That’s nearly double the price of the Moto G, but don’t let that put a damper on its appeal – the Moto G2 packs quite a punch just like its predecessor.

The Moto G2 will feature a larger, 5-inch 720p display. This is a jump from the Moto G’s 4.3 -inch display, though the resolution remains the same. Motorola has chosen to use the same quad core 1.2GHz Snapdragon 400 processor with 1GB RAM and a Cortex-A7 CPU. This means the the Moto G2 should be just as nippy as its predecessor, though we must admit to be disappointed with the choice of SoC.

There’s no word on the battery capacity yet, though we can expect a minimum 2070 mAh Li-Ion battery we saw on the Moto G. If it does pack the same battery, you can expect more than a day’s worth of juice as with the Moto G. Motorola has upgraded the camera, which is now a 8MP one on the rear and a 2MP snapper on the front for video chats. The Moto G2 will come with Android 4.4.4 Kitkat out of the box.

Just like the Moto G, the Moto G2 will be a dual-SIM smartphone and is expected to come with 8GB of built-in storage. Motorola may choose not to allow users to expand this, as with the original Moto G. The price might make people wary about choosing this Lenovo-backed Moto G2, considering it now has stiffer competition from smartphones such as the Xiaomi Mi3 and the Asus Zenfone 5.

It’s not clear if the Moto G2 will run stock Android, as Motorola is now backed by Lenovo and not Google, but we find it hard to see Lenovo making such a drastic change, once the acquisition gets regulatory approval, which has yet to happen. The fact that last year’s Moto G ran on stock Android was a key selling point for Motorola and we hope that the Moto G2 will follow suit. There’s no official word from Lenovo about G2′s launch, although GSMArena says that some retailers may get the handset as early as the end of August.

Exclusive: 5-inch Moto G2 to ship on Sept 10 for €250

The successor of Motorola Moto G, rumored as Moto G2 and Moto G+1, should be available for purchase on September 10.
The information comes from a retailer, which got the info straight from a Motorola rep.
Apparently the Dual-SIM Moto G with 5" display, as the Moto rep calls the device, will begin shipping to retailers on September 10. Some lucky retailers will be able to get the first batch of Moto G2 phones as early as the end of August, but it's unclear if they will be allowed to sell it before September 10.
We also got some idea of the expected pricing - about €250. That's double the original Moto G price and about 25% above the current Moto G 4G model.

Moto G2 a.k.a. Moto G+1 has leaked numerous times before via benchmarks and we know most of its specs - a 5" 720p display, a Snapdragon 400 chipset with a quad-core 1.2GHz Cortex-A7 CPU and Adreno 305 GPU, 1GB of RAM, an 8MP rear camera with 720p video recording, 2MP front snapper for video chats, and Android 4.4.4 KitKat out of the box. The internal storage is expected to be 8GB, but there is no word on expansion just yet.

If the September 10 is indeed the official launch date, we guess the Moto G2 should go official at IFA at the beginning of next month. The date also falls within the frame when the Motorola Moto X+1 is expected to debut, so the company will get a complete refresh of its portfolio for the upcoming Fall.

As far as the Indian market, Moto G2 (MOTO G+1) can be released at anytime during end of september or before October 2nd week.

Moto G2 possibly benchmarked, shows its specs

Moto G2 (Mot G+1) possibly benchmarked, shows its specs
The Moto G was released last November, but it looks like there's already a successor for it on the way. An image allegedlyshowing the next Moto G (which we'll call G2 for simplicity's sake, even though the official name hasn't been confirmed yet) popped up last month.
And now the upcoming smartphone may have gotten its specs outed by a benchmark. A Motorola device with the model number XT1063, which could in fact be the Moto G2, has been spotted in the GFXBench database.

It comes with a 5-inch 720p touchscreen, the same Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 chipset as its predecessor (with a 1.2 GHz quad-core CPU), 1GB of RAM, 8GB of internal storage, a 2MP front camera, and an 8MP rear snapper. The device runs Android 4.4.4 KitKat.
The biggest updates compared to the original G are in terms of screen size (up from 4.5 inches) and camera resolution, both on the front and on the back. The Moto G has a 5 MP rear unit, and a 1.3 MP one for selfies.

Everything else has stayed the same, though, so this won't be a revolutionary update to the G line for Motorola. Perhaps the light additions will allow the company to out the G2 alongside the flagship Moto X+1 this fall.

Alleged Motorola Moto G successor leaks

Alleged Motorola Moto G successor leaks - MOTO G2 or MOTO G+1
The Moto G is Motorola's most successful smartphone to date and has seen its fair share of upgrades in the form of the Moto G 4G and Dual-SIM variant but is yet to see it being replaced by a successor.
Although this is bound to happen we were yet to see the Moto G2 or Moto G second generation in the flesh (or plastic). Until now - an image has cropped up revealing what appears to be the successor to the Moto G.

The device has taken some design queues from the Moto E with a front-facing speaker grille.
A whiff of the specs has also been provided but they don't look too promising. The chipset is said to be the same Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 including an Adreno 305 GPU, the screen of unknown size has a 720p resolution, there's dual-SIM slots and an 8 MP snapper.
Only the last bit is an upgrade so far as the original Moto G has only a 5 MP shooter. Keep in mind that these specs might be subject to change with the same being said about the design in the image.

But in order to keep the same modest price attached Motorola, now owned by Lenovo, might as well be frugal with the upgrades.

With less than a month to go until the Moto G2's alleged release date, expect Motorola to make an announcement soon, possibly at IFA 2014 in early September.

The ZenFone 5 is run by a 1.6GHz Intel Atom Z2560 dual-core processor with PowerVR SGX544MP graphics, and has 1GB of RAM. With a high-end flagship device we’d expect a top gaming experience, so it’s always interesting to see how a more mid-range device, such as the ZenFone 5, fares in this respect.
The 10 minute video that we’ve embedded below for you to view comes from Fone Arena. It shows gameplay on the Zenfone 5 from Asphalt 8, Dead Trigger 2, Subway Surfers, Riptide GP2, and Real Boxing. Subsequently each clip you’ll see a score for graphics and also performance. For example, for Riptide GP2 there’s a score of 4/5 stars for graphics and also 4/5 for performance.

At the conclusion of the video you’ll see an overall gaming rating for the ZenFone 5. We don’t want to spoil that for you by telling you here as you’ll enjoy finding out on the gaming review, but it’s fair to say that the phone performs pretty well in this aspect.

Today, the establishment has broadcasted that the Zenfone 5 8GB and 16GB would be back on stock on Flipkart with 10,000 units available for sale starting tomorrow, August 9th and probably by time 8:00 AM to 11:AM.

Both the Zenfone 5 and Zenfone 6 smartphones received a newsoftware update earlier this week that brought better 3rd party app compatibility, system UI stability and more. We reviewed the smartphone recently and found it to be a good smartphone in a competitive price tag.

Hope the company would start selling the Zenfone 4 A450CG in India soon.
